By simply adding oil on time, you can significantly increase the life of your car's engine. A motor running with little or no oil is subject to tremendous wear and tear and overheating. However, when adding oil, be careful: in this case, it is better not to add a little more than to pour it over.
It is necessary
- - protective gloves
- - clean rag
- - butter
- - funnel
Instructions
Step 1
Raise the hood of the vehicle, remove the dipstick and check the current oil level. To do this, put on gloves, remove the dipstick and wipe it with a clean cloth. Then reinsert the dipstick and remove it again. This will help you determine how much more oil your engine needs.
Step 2
Find out which oil is right for your engine. Most often, information about the viscosity and name of the brand of oil recommended by the automaker is located at the oil filler cap, on a small label, or on the cap itself. If there is nothing there, then this information should be indicated in the instruction manual of your car. Never fill with oil without making sure it is suitable for your engine! Also, never mix different types of oil: you can seriously damage the engine.
Step 3
Fill in oil. When you are satisfied that you have purchased the correct oil, simply unscrew the oil filler cap, place a funnel in it and fill in about half of the amount you need. Then check the oil level again following the instructions from the first step and top up if necessary.
Step 4
Screw on the oil filler cap, make sure the dipstick is in place, and close the hood of your vehicle.
