The Russian army was famous and is still famous for its military vehicles: their power, cross-country ability on various soils and constant modernization. One of the most successful models used by the army to this day is the creation of the Kama Automobile Plant.
The history of the formation of a military KamAZ
OJSC KamAZ (Kama Automobile Plant) was founded in 1969. The plant is located in the city of Naberezhnye Chelny, in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. The main direction of production is the manufacture of both civilian trucks and military specialized equipment. Tractors and buses are also produced.
Due to the improvement of automotive technology in the West, the USSR faced the question of creating its own supercar, capable of competing with other powers and using it for military purposes.
The choice was made in favor of the Kama Automobile Plant - due to the power, reliability and character of the KamAZ truck. Even though the plant had never manufactured military vehicles before. This is how the first military model 4310 appeared in January 1981. The designer was V. A. Kuzmin. However, before its release, 10 years of research and development were carried out, 12 samples were made, which were subjected to various tests.
Model 4310 performed primarily the function of a tractor and truck for transporting military equipment and personnel.
KamAZ 4310 had an all-side cargo platform with a tailgate. It had a V-shaped four-stroke diesel engine with a capacity of 220 l / s. However, the car had a number of shortcomings that were identified during the military exercises: a small maximum climb (30 degrees), low carrying capacity (6 tons), a bumper without towing attachments.
Improvement of the military KamAZ
The designers of the plant took these errors into account and created a new model at the end of the 80s - model 4326. True, the collapse of the USSR did not allow the car to be published in a timely manner, and only in the mid-90s the car entered the conveyor. In addition to eliminating the above disadvantages, the cabin was improved, the engine power was increased to 240 l / s, a turbocharging system was added, and the carrying capacity was increased to 12 tons.
New models in our time
Scientific and technical center "KamAZ" does not sit still, constantly improving models and providing the army of the Russian Federation with new items. To date, old KamAZ models have been modernized and new models have been released: Mustang, Typhoon and Tornado.
The Kama Automobile Plant constantly takes part in intercontinental rally-marathons. This led to the fact that the unique sport-racing KamAZ-4911 in 2003 was presented in a military version. There are no analogues to it in the world yet.
