The timing belt (gas distribution mechanism) is a belt that is made of a special compound with notches on its inner side. They are needed for reinforced fixation and grip of the belt in a specific position, preventing slipping. The timing belt has changed the drive chain and has proved to be the best, but not on all car brands and requires constant monitoring, and sometimes replacement. Try changing the timing belt on an Opel car, referring to the instructions below.
It is necessary
- - Socket wrench set,
- - curly screwdriver,
- - timing belt.
Instructions
Step 1
Start by disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery. Then remove the sensor on the air filter.
Step 2
Remove the filter housing along with its contents, for this unscrew the self-tapping screw and pull out the air intake pipe. Using a jack, lift the machine slightly from the right front side and remove the wheel, secure the machine to the supports.
Step 3
Remove the protection under the right front fender. Using a jack, fix the right side of the engine, while you must first put wood gaskets under the crankcase so as not to damage it.
Step 4
Remove the right engine mount of the Opel car together with the bracket. Now remove the accessory drive belt. To do this, use a 15 mm spanner wrench, put it on the roller and wring it counterclockwise, while simultaneously freeing it from the belt.
Step 5
Unscrew the bolts and disconnect the camshaft sensor chip and remove the upper protective cover. Remove the plug on the side of the crankcase and secure the flywheel with a steel rod. Unscrew the crankshaft pulley counterclockwise and remove it. For convenience, remove the alternator belt tensioner.
Step 6
After that, remove the bottom protection, for this unscrew one bolt and disconnect the latches. If there is a sensor on the knee shaft, remove it by unscrewing two bolts. Take him a little to the side.
Step 7
Insert the crankshaft pulley bolt back and remove the flywheel locking tool. Turn the crankshaft clockwise with a wrench until the two marks on the camshaft and crankshaft gears are aligned. The latch must be made of a sufficiently strong material, otherwise the gear may bend and turn.
Step 8
Using the hex key, loosen the tension roller bolt by inserting it into the hole in the lever. Move the roller to the side and loosen the toothed belt, remove it from the camshafts and rollers. Everything, the belt is removed.
Step 9
Replace the two small rollers with new ones and check the pump. When replacing the timing belt, it is especially important to replace the tension roller with a new one.
Step 10
Now let's move on to installing the timing belt. Start at the crankshaft gears and then through the small rollers to the tensioner pulley and pump. First pull the belt over the first gear of the exhaust camshaft, circle and pull over the intake gear, the one on the left. If at the same time the gear jumps one tooth, return it with the key back.
Step 11
Now you can reassemble in the reverse order.
