Rough roads, dirt, dust and water are the main enemies of any machine. Hub bearings are no exception. And the first sign of its malfunction is an intolerable rumble coming from the side of the wheel.

Necessary

  • - wheel chocks;
  • - support for insurance;
  • - a set of keys and screwdrivers;
  • - jack;
  • - pullers for circlips and bearings;
  • - grease and new bearings.

Instructions

Step 1

Replace wheel bearings if excessive wear occurs. The malfunction can be determined by the hum that comes from the front wheels of the car. Before starting repairs, be sure to install wheel chocks under the rear wheels of the machine. Before jacking up the vehicle, slightly loosen the wheel bolts. After that, remove the protective cap on the hub and loosen the nut. With a socket or pipe wrench 30, rip off this nut, but do not unscrew it completely.

Step 2

Jack up the side of the vehicle to be repaired and place a support under it for belay. Now you need to slightly press the brake caliper inward with a screwdriver to facilitate work. After that, with a chisel and a hammer, it is necessary to straighten the plates under the bolts that connect the halves of the caliper. Next, you need a 17 wrench. Use it to unscrew the bolts to disconnect the caliper. Remove the brake pads, noting their position. Hang up the calipers so as not to damage the hoses.

Step 3

Use wrenches 17 and 19 to remove the bolts at the bottom of the rack. Only here there is one point that must be taken into account. The top bolt is equipped with eccentric washers to adjust the camber of the front wheels. Since everything is in order with the setting on your car, in order not to violate it, you need to mark the current position. This is done in several ways. With a chisel, you can knock out a notch, along which you can subsequently expose the camber. Painting the surface of the rack is a good option. You can also trace the outline of the hub with a scribe or marker.

Step 4

Remove the bolts from the rack and disconnect the ball joint from the hub using a 17 wrench. Now you can safely unscrew the nut on the CV joint. It is she who is the last link that holds the hub on the car. Remove it from the CV joint, it only rests on the splines. Wipe off dirt, dust and old grease from the surface of the hub with a rag. The bearing is fixed with a circlip, which must be removed with a special puller.

Step 5

Remove the bearing from the seat. For this, it is more convenient to use a special puller. In fact, everything is carried out using a piece of pipe, the diameter of which is equal to the outer race of the wheel bearing, chisel and hammer. Press in a new bearing carefully, taking care not to damage it. Apply a generous amount of lubricant before installing it, so it will last longer. The rest of the assembly takes place in the reverse order.
