To install driven or driven wheels on a car, hubs are used, which, in turn, are attached to the axis of rotation by bearings. Let's look at how to replace the rear hub bearing.
Instructions
Step 1
Prepare the necessary tools: pliers, screwdriver, socket "24", two pullers - one for pressing out the bearing, and the other universal. After that, loosen the bolts of the rear wheel you need and engage first gear. Place wheel chocks under the front wheels, then use a jack to raise the vehicle and support the rear. Carefully remove the rear wheel to be replaced.
Step 2
Remove the brake drum, along with which the oil seal, the inner bearing rings and the outer bearing inner ring will be disconnected. Remove the inner bearing inner ring from the hub, and then use a bit and a hammer to knock out the outer rings of both bearings.
Step 3
Thoroughly clean the inner cavity of the hub from grease and check the surface for cracks, chips, wear. At the same time, inspect the pads and brake mechanism. If you notice any defect, then it is better to replace the damaged part. After that, carefully lubricate the inside of the hub with a special bearing grease.
Step 4
Find a mandrel or metal circle of a suitable diameter and use it to press the outer ring into the hub. Be sure to put about two teaspoons of grease in the hub cavity. Install the outer ring of the inner bearing in the same way and press in the oil seal, having previously put the inner ring in place. Remember that the oil seal must be changed every time it is removed, do not skimp on this.
Step 5
Place the brake drum in its place and fit the outer bearing inner race. Do not forget to wipe and lubricate the axle first. Install the washer and hub nut, then install the wheel and adjust the bearings.
