Brogam (eng. B linkedin) in the automotive context is a body style based on the eponymous type of carriage, invented in the early 19th century by the English Lord Brogam.
Initially, these were cars that looked like a limousine, with a removable or even missing roof over the first row of seats, a closed passenger compartment and a glazed partition between them. Such bodies were popular before World War II and were used by manufacturers on the chassis of luxury vehicles such as the Bugatti Type 41 Coupe Napoleon, Bugatti Type 41 Coupe de Ville and Rolls-Royce Phantom II.
Later, their popularity declined, but the term continued to be used by American automakers in the names of models with a fully closed body and eventually lost its original meaning. In some cases, this was even the name given to the configuration of convertibles, despite the fact that they absolutely do not fit the original meaning of the term.
For the first time the term "brogam" in the name of a car with a fully closed body was used by Cadillac in 1916. Since then, Cadillac, Daewoo and Holden have used it in the names of their car models, and most of the divisions of General Motors, Ford Motor Company and Chrysler Corporation have used it as the configuration name from the 1970s to the first half of the 1990s. In the trim name, "brogam" was used to refer to a more luxurious and comfortable version of the original model.
