Unfortunately, in driving schools little time is devoted to teaching cadets to correctly and safely parking. And after graduation, many novice car enthusiasts experience stress, exhaust their nerves, parking their car several times a day.

More often than not, parking failures occur due to an incorrect estimate of the free space required for parking. That, in turn, is a consequence of the inability to feel the dimensions of your car. Fortunately, this skill is not difficult to acquire with practice at the circuit. First of all, hone your reversing driving skills. To do this, ride on the race track for several kilometers, trying to navigate, including using mirrors.

Training at the circuit

Then arrange the pegs and stands so that they mimic the position of other cars. Between such imaginary cars, there should be a free space equal to twice the length of your car. Try to memorize the size of the space you need for parking and learn how to find a suitable parking space in an urban setting. Subsequently, when parking skills have been sufficiently developed, a reserve of 35-45 cm in front and behind of the car will be enough for parking.

When you have "noticed" a suitable parking space, stop in front of it. In the right mirror, you should see the left tailgate of the car behind which you will be standing. Turn your head back, looking over your shoulder. Begin to move in reverse at minimum speed until your car is level with the one next to you. Then turn the steering wheel sharply towards the curb. Stop as soon as the rear wheel approaches the curb.

Now unscrew the steering wheel in the opposite direction. Again, start moving backward at minimum speed, placing the car in the parking lot and being careful not to hit the pegs that simulate other cars. Do not forget to use the rear-view mirror - it will allow you to better orient yourself and more accurately drive up to the obstacle.

If you have any doubts while parking your car, it is better to stop. If you are not sure that your car will fit, find another place. When turning your head back over your shoulder, do not forget about the mirrors.

If your car is equipped with parking sensors, this will greatly facilitate the task of correct parking. But do not trust the device 100% and do not lose your vigilance. Often, parking sensors may have blind spots, and the device will not show, for example, low obstacles. And even more often, water or dirt gets on the sensors and they stop "seeing" obstacles.

How to park correctly

Always think about the possible consequences of your parking. Park in such a way as not to interfere with others getting into or out of the parking lot, and not to obstruct the passage of others. If you park in a prohibited place, you risk not only not finding your car later, but also paying a fine. If you park your car too close to the truck, it can scratch your car when driving out of the parking lot. if the side of a nearby car is too close, you will not be able to open the door. And be sure to focus your attention on other vehicles while controlling your emotions.

After getting out of the car, look around: are there any nearby old shields, tilted trees, on the roofs of houses - icicles and hanging snowballs.

When parking, take into account the peculiarities of your car. For example, rear-wheel drive cars have a minimum turning radius, and all-wheel drive cars have a maximum. If you are a beginner and the process of parking your car is still taking a long time, turn on the hazard warning light.
