Instructions
Step 1
Find the old body part. This could be a door, hood, or fender. This part is needed for the first experience of painting a car. The main thing is that the part you found is intact.
Step 2
Begin your paint preparation by removing the doors, trunk and hood. This will greatly facilitate the process and gain access to the openings, which also need to be carefully painted over. You will need special coasters to paint the doors. They can be made from boards knocked together crosswise.
Step 3
Discard the old paint coat. To do this, first wash the car body with water and a special shampoo. You can remove the paint with a chemical. In this case, be sure to use protective equipment, as the chemicals can harm your health. You can also get rid of old paint with sandpaper or a sander. In the absence of a grinder, use a conventional drill with a grinding wheel attachment. Remove paint thoroughly from the entire surface of the body. Use a coarse sandpaper, gradually replacing it with a smaller one. In those places where there are traces of corrosion or rust, you need to clean the surface to clean metal.
Step 4
Degrease the car body with a special fluid. For this purpose, a soap solution with a high concentration may well be suitable. Prepare the putty. On the can you will find detailed instructions on how to prepare it. Apply the first coat. It should be as thin as possible. Fiberglass can be added to the putty to add strength. It is worth noting that fiberglass does not rot over time, as it is an artificial material. Avoid thick layers of putty. Smooth it thoroughly over the entire surface.
Step 5
Let the first coat dry. Examine the body. Apply a second coat if needed. Now you need to glue those parts that should not be painted. The windshield and rear windows can be sealed with newspapers. Stick masking tape on the seal. Do everything very carefully so as not to leave gaps. Close the doorways with polyethylene, fixing it with the same masking tape. The wheels of the car must also be covered with foil.
Step 6
Degrease the vehicle just before painting. It is necessary to paint only indoors. This is best done in a spray booth. If it is not there, then an ordinary garage with electricity will do. Take care of fluorescent lamps. They will allow you to see with the naked eye all the flaws and flaws in the painting. Thoroughly blow the floor, walls and ceiling of the garage with a compressor to get rid of dust. Cover the floor with plastic wrap. Cover the walls and shelves with it. Paint your car only when the doors are closed!
Step 7
Wear special clothing, gloves, goggles and a respirator. Start the process by painting all openings. Make smooth and even movements. Keep the paint sprayer at a distance of 30-45 centimeters from the body surface. Do not stay in one place for a long time with the spray gun button activated, so as not to apply too much paint. Then paint the roof of the car. Paint in smooth movements, covering the entire space from one end to the other. Next, paint the side pieces. Paint the doors, hood and trunk lid in the same way.
Step 8
Examine the applied paint coat. If there are flaws, then paint the car with a second coat. Apply varnish after 20 minutes. Small smudges will be removed when polishing the body with a sander.
