Many reasons for poor performance of an electronic injection engine are associated with loss of compression in the cylinders or with problems in the ignition system. If the compression measurements showed normal results, and the ignition is normal, then you can independently check if fuel is being supplied to the cylinders.

Necessary

  • - Keys set;
  • - screwdrivers;
  • - digital multimeter;
  • - 12V bulb with wires;
  • - help of a partner.

Instructions

Step 1

Remove all high voltage ignition wires from the spark plug electrodes and remove one spark plug. This must be done so that the engine does not start. It is not necessary to disconnect the low-voltage connector from the distributor, as this may cause the fuel pump not to turn on. Ask your partner to see if the fuel mixture is escaping from the spark plug hole. On command, turn on the starter for 2-3 seconds. If, when the engine rotates, the fuel mixture flies out of the cylinder in portions, it means that fuel is supplied to this cylinder. Check all other cylinders.

Step 2

If there are clear indications that fuel is not being supplied to one of the cylinders, remove the spark plug from the cylinder. Remove the electrical connector from the injector and use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the injector coil. Usually it is in the range of 2-12 ohms. If the device shows a short circuit, then, in addition to replacing the injector, you will have to replace the injection control unit.

Step 3

In the event that the device shows a break in the coil, it will not be superfluous to make sure that this output of the control unit is working properly. Measure the resistance of a working injector to know what current the computer's output stage is rated for. This is necessary in order to know how much power you can connect the light bulb to the injector connector.

Step 4

Calculate the maximum current according to Ohm's law - current = voltage / resistance, taking 6 volts as the voltage value. It follows from this that with a coil resistance of 12 ohms, the current will be 0.5A and the power of the light bulb is not more than 6 watts. Take a light bulb from the dimensions or from the instrument panel illumination, its power is usually 5 watts, straighten its contacts and insert their connector instead of the injector. Reinstall the removed high-voltage wires, connect a working injector, start the engine and watch the light turn on. At idle, it will flicker. Add revolutions by opening the throttle, the light will burn evenly, and the brightness of the glow will increase with increasing revolutions. If this is the case, it means that the engine control unit is working properly, only the replacement of the injector is required.
