Engine breakdowns due to overheating are not uncommon. The efficiency and reliability of the engine operation is achieved by constantly maintaining a certain temperature range inside it. For this, the engine is equipped with a cooling system. The cooling system consists of several elements, but the main one is the radiator. It is in the radiator that the heat exchange of the fluid heated by the engine takes place with the environment.

It is necessary

  • - Working waterproof gloves;
  • - Capacity for drained liquids;
  • - Hose;
  • - Means for flushing the radiator;
  • - Bucket with soapy water;
  • - Brush with soft bristles.

Instructions

Step 1

Instead of drained antifreeze, pour distilled water into the cooling system and start the engine. The engine should run for about 20 minutes, after which the water must be drained. Repeat the operation until the drained water does not contain rust and dirt.

Step 2

If the radiator is very heavily clogged, a special cleaning agent should be added to the water. It is important to remember that such formulations can harm the cooling system if used improperly. Therefore, you must strictly follow the instructions for their use. After that, flush the system several more times in the same way, but only with ordinary water. This will completely remove any residual cleaner from the cooling system. Do not use when flushing fluids that contain aggressive ingredients. Their use will damage the rubber elements of the system.

Step 3

Very often, the heat exchange in the radiator is disrupted due to the fact that the outer grille is clogged with dust, fluff or insects. You can clean it with a jet of water, after removing the radiator.

Step 4

After the radiator has been cleaned and flushed, refill the system with new coolant. When the cooling system is completely filled, it is necessary to eliminate the air pockets in it. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. When the engine is running, all the air will escape by itself. Now add coolant to the specified level and screw all caps back on.
