The fuel pump mesh is a metal coarse filter. To replace the mesh, it is necessary to disassemble the fuel pump housing located in the rear of the car behind the back of the passenger sofa.
The fuel pump mesh is called a coarse fuel filter, which is a metal mesh filter that traps contaminants before the fuel enters the fuel pump. Replacing the mesh filter with your own hands allows you to save on payment for the services of service specialists and gain experience that allows you to perform this operation in the future with reduced time costs.
Dismantling the fuel pump
The first step in the process of replacing the strainer is to remove the fuel pump. The process of dismantling it includes the following steps:
1. Pump out gasoline from the fuel tank.
2. Remove the back row sofa cushion to provide access to the fuel pump. The method of attaching the sofa cushion is individual for each car model. The pillow can be secured using bolted connections or plastic clips.
3. Remove the protective cover. The fuel pump must be separated from the back of the sofa by a plastic sealed cover that protects it from dirt and prevents the smell of gasoline from entering the passenger compartment.
4. Disconnect the power supply connector and the vehicle fuel hoses from the pump.
5. Remove the petrol pump retaining ring using a hammer and a mounting screwdriver.
6. Remove the fuel pump from its seat and drain the fuel into a prepared container.
Replacing the mesh
After the fuel has completely drained, you can start disassembling the fuel pump, which is necessary to replace the mesh. Disassembly consists of the following operations:
1. Dismantle the petrol level indicator float so as not to damage it during further disassembly.
2. Disconnect the power supply connector and remove the pump housing cover.
3. Lift the pump out of the housing. If necessary, treat the seating surface with WD-40 fluid.
4. Remove the fuel pump sieve from the housing. To do this, you can use a wire grip or other similar device.
5. Install a new mesh in the fuel pump housing. Replacing the fuel pump mesh assumes the use of a new product, since flushing and reusing the old mesh will not provide the required quality of fuel cleaning.
6. Assemble the fuel pump by performing the previous steps in reverse order. If necessary, replace the gasket between the casing and the pump cover.
7. Check that the pump is working properly, and then install the back of the sofa to its original place.
