Long-term operation of the engine leads to a change in the flow area of the nozzles, which decreases due to the deposition of resinous substances, or increases as a result of the passage of fuel. Once or twice a year, depending on the intensity of use, it is necessary to check the throughput of the nozzles.

Necessary

  • - water
  • - tubes
  • - beaker
  • - stopwatch

Instructions

Step 1

Flush the jet in unleaded gasoline, then in acetone. If there are resinous substances in the orifice of the jet, carefully remove them with a wooden stick moistened with acetone.

Step 2

To check the throughput of the nozzles, use a special device operating on the principle of measuring the amount of water that has flowed with absolute and relative measurement. Build such a device from a small tank with two tubes located at the very bottom.

Step 3

Fix one tube (drain) so that, exceeding the required level, the water through it drains out of the tank. Another tube (pressure) must serve to create a liquid column. Put a rubber stopper with a nozzle on its end.

Step 4

Place a beaker with graduations of no more than 5 cm3 and a volume of up to 0.5 liters under the pressure tube. Prepare a watch with a second hand or a stopwatch.

Step 5

Provide a continuous supply of water to the tank from the mains. Determine its throughput by the amount of liquid that has flowed out through the calibrated orifice of the nozzle in one minute. To do this, place a beaker under the stream and time it. After exactly 60 seconds, remove the beaker from under the water.

Step 6

The division of the beaker scale, opposite which the water meniscus stops, corresponds to the throughput of the nozzle in cm3 / min. Make sure that the direction of water spillage of the jet corresponds to the direction in which air or gasoline passes through it.

Step 7

To reduce the flow rate of the nozzle, place it between the barbs inserted into the bases of the outlet and inlet chamfers of the calibrated hole on both sides. Press one of the two inserted barbs into a hard surface and hit the other with a hammer. This will settle the body of the jet, reducing the bore diameter and reducing the throughput.
