Step 1
Determine the wheel width of your vehicle. To do this, you should use the formula that is common among motorists. You should measure the width of the tire's projector (it is more convenient to measure in millimeters) and subtract 20% from this number. For example, the width of a tire is 270 millimeters. Subtracting the above 20%, you get 216 millimeters. Then convert the result to centimeters. You should end up with the number 21.6 cm. Since the width of the wheel is measured in inches, divide 21.6 by 2.54 (2.54 cm in one inch). You end up with 8.5 inches. It should not be forgotten that the maximum difference between the width of the wheel and the tire must be no more than 15%.
Step 2
Find out the diameter of the wheel. Check the old tires for the required markings initially. If this is not the case, then resort to the next method. Draw a line on the section of the tire that faces the ground and directly on the same section of ground. Then try to push your car so that the wheel makes a full revolution around its axis. Mark the place where the car stopped and measure the distance between these two lines. Divide the resulting number by the number "Pi" (3, 1415). This will be your diameter.
Step 3
Measure the wheel offset if you want to change tires or rims for higher ones, as this characteristic will certainly change in this case. If you increase the size of the wheel diameter, the overhang will decrease. The formula for measuring this indicator is as follows. Measure the distance from your wheel's axis of symmetry to where the disc attaches to the hub. Then subtract 6, 5 millimeters from this number. This will be the departure of the wheel.
