One of the malfunctions of the injection engine is the failure of the camshaft position sensor. At the same time, the Chek indicator on the instrument panel turns on, the engine starts to work unstably, intermittently. A tester or multimeter is required to test this sensor.

Instructions

Step 1

Locate the locating socket with the camshaft position sensor (CMP) on the engine block head. Check the o-ring for damage. Make sure that the sensor housing and the gear rotor are also free of any damage or metal particles.

Step 2

After making sure that the ignition on the car is turned off, disconnect the power and engine control wires from the sensor. As a rule, these wires are fastened with standard connectors, therefore, to disconnect the wires, it is enough to press the block latch. Pay attention to the wire connector. It must have three contacts: a positive supply contact (plus), a ground contact (minus), and a signal contact.

Step 3

Turn on the car ignition. Using a voltmeter (tester), measure the voltage on the positive supply wire of the camshaft position sensor. In this case, connect the negative probe of the device to the engine ground. The voltage measured in this way must correspond to the voltage at the battery terminals. If the measured voltage does not correspond to the supply voltage, then the sensor power supply circuit is faulty. Measure the voltage at the sensor ground in the same way. It must be zero.

Step 4

Connect the positive and negative supply wires of the DPRV. When connecting the middle (signal) wire of the sensor, make this connection through a voltmeter (tester). In other words, one of the voltmeter probes should touch the signal output of the sensor, the other - the signal input of the engine management system. In most cases, this will require cutting the signal wire and connecting a tester to the ends of the bare wires.

Step 5

Crank the engine with a starter. A working sensor should show a voltage fluctuation from zero to 5 volts. If the sensor is defective, replace it with a new one. To do this, disconnect all its wires, unscrew the bolt of its fastening and remove the DPRV from the installation socket. Carry out the installation of the new sensor in the reverse order. The tightening torque of the fixing bolt must be 10 Nm. Remember to fit the rubber grommet where the sensor and the block head join.
