In winter, heavy use of road reagents has a detrimental effect on shoes, and motorists suffer from damaged tires and car mats. For three to four months, when the temperature drops below zero and the streets are treated with reagents, some drivers manage to change several sets of car mats. But you can always find a way out and save money by making rugs with your own hands.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose the material from which you will make the floor mats for your car. It is best to use two layers - one for waterproofing, the other to protect the bottom layer from the effects of reagents. Rubber or plastic is perfect for the bottom and dense textile fabric for the second.
Step 2
First, take measurements. This can be done using a tape measure. After measuring the width and length of the area for the rug, cut out a piece of paper and attach it in place, then outline the uneven edges of the required area. This piece of paper can now be used as a template.
Step 3
Another way to measure is much easier - just sketch out an old rug or use it as a stencil.
Step 4
For the bottom layer, purchase a rubber waterproofing sheet from a hardware store or use a still usable car mat.
Step 5
For the upper, use thick felt, an old rug or carpet that is unlikely to be useful in your home (you can use both woolen and synthetic carpets).
Step 6
Using a previously prepared stencil, apply the contours of the future part of the rug with chalk or an old remnant. Carefully cut a part of the future rug along the applied contour; the edges of the textile part should be treated with matches or a lighter in order to light up the threads that appear. This is to prevent our rug from unraveling. Make sure both layers of the rug are aligned with each other. If there are irregularities, correct them with scissors.
Step 7
Then fasten both layers of the rug together. This is best done with thick threads. Place both layers evenly on top of each other and make a series of holes along the edge of the workpiece with a distance of about half a centimeter between them. The only thing left to do was to sew parts of the rug together using a thick needle and strong thread.
