Every car owner knows what accessories are needed to create comfort in the car. These include the rugs that everyone needs. They act not only as a part of the interior of the cabin, but also to protect the car body from moisture and the formation of an unpleasant odor in the cabin.
Until recently, rubber mats were in great demand, but now they are replaced by fabric ones made of special fabric.
Fabric rugs
So, the main positive quality of fabric rugs is their presentable appearance. Unlike rubber models, these floor mats can be matched to the color and style of your car's interior. However, they look richer.
However, this is where the advantages of this model end. When wet, the mat, like any other fabric, absorbs moisture and dirt, which leads to the formation of fungus, rotting and an unpleasant odor in the cabin. Of course, this problem can be dealt with by periodically erasing it. But we all know that after frequent washing, the fabric loses its elasticity, along with it, losing its attractive appearance. However, scuffs and permanent stains of dirt appear on the fabric as you use it.
Pros and cons of rubber mats
The main difference between these products is a longer service life. Since they are made of wear-resistant rubber, mats can perform their main functions for at least 10-15 years. The main advantage is high moisture resistance. Unlike fabric rugs, melted snow or dirt from shoes will not penetrate into the rubber mat and thus will not cause the formation of mold and mildew on the underside of the car.
Only by using rubber mats can these problems be avoided. These products usually have depressions in which moisture and dirt remain, which can be easily removed by simply shaking out the bedding.
It is more convenient to care for such rugs than for other models. It is enough just to rinse them with water from a hose and periodically wash them with special chemicals.
However, there are also negative qualities of this model. Such factors completely depend on the quality of the material from which a particular specimen is made. For example, owners of high-quality rubber mats will not have any problems for many years of use, while other models made of low-quality rubber will last only 1-2 years.
Which rug to choose?
Of course, the choice of accessories for your car is yours, but in order not to be mistaken with the choice, we advise you to stick to the golden mean. There is the best option, which retains dirt and moisture, but does not allow them to be absorbed into the bottom of the car, thereby contributing to the appearance of a rotting odor and the formation of mold.
This option is a rug, in which the upper layer is fabric or velor, and the lower one is rubber. The only drawback of this type is their relatively high cost. But once you spend it, you will save on further repairs to your car.
