Avoid puddles. If this is not possible, drive through the water with light brake pressure. This will allow less water to enter drums and pads. After driving through a puddle, press and release the brake pedal several times. The pads and drum will become hot and dry. Be sure to do the same after washing your car during the cold season. Before leaving the car in the parking lot, make it a habit to thoroughly dry the brake system by briefly pressing the brake pedal while driving.

Do not put the car on the handbrake! Especially after washing. Bet on gear only. This is extremely important during freezing temperatures, snowfall and thaw.

Try to get under way. If the pads are not very cold, they will come off.
Step 5
Fill a kettle or hot water bottle. A liter is enough for both drums. Remove the car from the handbrake. If the car is on a slope, place some kind of support under the wheels so that the car does not drive when the pads are frozen.
Step 6
Warm up the brake drum or brake disc, depending on the design feature of the brake system of your car, pouring a thin stream of hot water over them. When the pads are released from the ice cap, you will hear a characteristic click. You can go.

Dry the brakes immediately. For example, if you drive 100 meters with the handbrake on, the drums will heat up and the water that gets into them will dry out.

If the car is near a power outlet, plug in a hairdryer or convection heater and warm up the brakes with hot air.

Alternatively, slide a hose over the exhaust pipe and point the other end over the pads. They will warm up and defrost.

The brake drums have holes for water drainage. They can become clogged. If the pads freeze up regularly, remove the wheels, brush the brake drums, remove the dirt so that the brake system is well dried.
