Clutch failure is the most common malfunction in any car. Driving through traffic jams, frequent stopping and starting off destroy the driven disc. But when replacing the driven disc, it is advisable to change both the drive and release bearings.

The clutch is necessary to separate the transmission input shaft and the engine crankshaft. With its help, a smooth start-off is carried out, gear shifting occurs without jerks and squeaks. The VAZ 2107 uses a single-disc clutch with a hydraulic drive.

Such a drive is more complicated than a cable drive, but it also has its advantages. The most important thing is a light pedal, you need to apply less effort. To change the clutch assemblies, you will need to completely remove the gearbox. And during the procedure, you need to inspect the rest of the elements for defects.

Removing the transmission

It is more convenient to do the work on a pit or overpass. It is desirable, but not necessary, to have an assistant, because the work must be carried out both under the hood and under the car. Start from the top, by disconnecting the battery. After that, all negative wires connecting the gearbox and the engine are disconnected. The gearshift lever is disassembled in the cabin.

The starter must be removed, and all the liquid must be drained from the tank. The work on the top has been completed so far, we are moving under the bottom. We unscrew the propeller shaft. You need to be careful here, as you need to mark the position of the universal joint on the flange of the rear axle and on the splines at the gearbox. If not installed as it was, humming and abnormal vibration may be generated.

Disconnect the reverse sensor and the speedometer cable from the box. The driven cylinder of the drive is mounted on two bolts, they must be unscrewed and removed to the side of the cylinder. The penultimate one is the unscrewing of the nuts that secure the box to the bottom. And here is the last one - unscrewing the four bolts of the gearbox to the engine.

And then - you need to rip the box, sometimes it is not easy to do this. For ease of operation, set the speed selector lever to the third gear position. Avoid dropping the gearbox down suddenly unless you plan on changing the clutch basket. But the best option is to replace all the nodes, namely:

• master and slave disks;

• release bearing;

• flywheel crown;

• 6 bolts for fastening the basket.

The bolts must be changed in any case.

Clutch installation and assembly

When installing the basket and the driven disc, centering must be observed. Otherwise, it will not be possible to dock the box and the engine, the input shaft will not fall into place. If there is no centering device, then you can use an old input shaft, a cut to size, or a piece of pipe of a suitable diameter.

Tighten the bolts only after alignment. After removing the release bearing from the input shaft of the box, install a new one. Now you can collect everything. Installation and assembly is carried out in the reverse order of disassembly. Pay attention to the crosspieces of the propeller shaft, to the condition of the outboard bearing. Replace them if necessary.
