It is more convenient to replace the crosspiece on a VAZ-2107 car after removing the propeller shaft. Having unscrewed the bolts from the flange and the outboard bearing, the propeller shaft is knocked out of the rubber coupling at the gearbox. It is connected to the gearbox by means of splines.

Necessary

  • - keys set;
  • - flat screwdriver;
  • - wooden mallet;
  • - Retainer ring puller;
  • - marker.

Instructions

Step 1

Place the vehicle on an inspection pit or overpass. Place wheel chocks under the rear wheels. Do not try to put on speed, as you will have to remove the propeller shaft. To be sure, put the car on the handbrake. You will now need a marker or screwdriver. You need to make a few marks on the propeller shaft. One on the flange, with which the cardan is attached to the rear gearbox, the other on the splined connection with the gearbox. If the propeller shaft is incorrectly installed, sometimes there are extraneous noises while driving.

Step 2

Remove the four bolts that secure the propeller shaft flange to the gearbox. The bolt heads are round with one face. If the bolt turns, then it can be fixed with an open-end wrench at 12. The nut is unscrewed with a wrench at 13. For now, it is too early to remove the crosspieces, it is better to replace them on the dismantled cardan. So it is more convenient and efficient to replace the crosses. You will not have to disassemble the drive several times later.

Step 3

Remove the two bolts that secure the outboard bearing to the body. The bolts have a turnkey head of 13, it is most convenient to do this with a socket wrench with a ratchet. Try to pre-coat all threaded connections with a penetrating lubricant. After all, this is the bottom of the car, a lot of dirt and water accumulates on it, which is why the metal rusts, and it is unrealistic to unscrew the nuts and bolts after such an environmental impact.

Step 4

Drive the propeller shaft out of the coupling. With neat but sharp blows of a wooden mallet, knock out the gimbal. It is quite possible that it will come out with difficulty, therefore, it is highly discouraged to use metal hammers, since the propeller shaft can be bent, which will cause it to lose balance and become a source of vibration during driving.

Step 5

Remove the old crosses. They are mounted on the propeller shaft and secured with circlips, which must be removed with a special puller. Old crosses are knocked out with sharp blows of a wooden mallet on the cups. Enough for one needle bearing cup to fall out. The other three will be easier to extract.

Step 6

Install new crosses taking care not to damage the needle bearings. If they collapse, it will be difficult to collect them. Plus, there is a special lubricant in the cups. The cups must be installed in the holes without sharp or violent impacts. Only after the cup is at least a little put on the crosspiece, you can gently tap on it so that it completely sits down. The rest of the needle bearing cups are installed in the same way. Finally, install the retaining rings. The cross, located in the middle of the propeller shaft, changes in the same way.
