Starting up a hill is a difficult skill to master for a novice driver. But after a series of practical exercises at the circuit, he masters quickly. The main thing is attentiveness during the exercise and coordination of actions.
Instructions
Step 1
If the vehicle is on the handbrake, engine on, and in neutral (manual transmission), proceed as follows. Engage first gear and slowly turn up the throttle in the same way as when starting off. Then begin to gently release the clutch until the engine runs twice as quiet. At this point, hold the clutch and turn on the gas: the more the slope, the more you add. While holding the accelerator pedal, release the handbrake and release the clutch as smoothly as possible.
Step 2
To prevent the engine from stalling, do not forget to delay the clutch, add gas again, release the handbrake not too late, and do the secondary release of the clutch very, very slowly. If you release the handbrake earlier than necessary, the vehicle may roll backward. In this case, stop it with the foot brake.
Step 3
If the car with the engine running is on the foot brake in neutral, follow a similar, but still slightly different sequence of actions. Engage first gear and slowly release the clutch until the car starts to shake. At this point, be sure to hold the clutch. While holding the clutch, release the foot brake and press the accelerator pedal. Release the clutch even more smoothly by controlling the movement of the car with the gas pedal.
Step 4
To prevent the car from stalling, try not to flinch with your foot on the clutch the moment you move your other foot from the brake to the gas. Work out the exercise so as not to prematurely transfer your foot from the brake to the gas, so as not to press the accelerator pedal too hard and not to release the clutch pedal again too sharply
Step 5
If you need to move up the hill in reverse, follow the same sequence of actions. Naturally, engage reverse gear instead of first gear. Turn your head back and look over your right shoulder into the rear window or rear door windows.
Step 6
On cars with automatic transmission, it is easier to move uphill. Turn on forward mode. Then press the throttle with a force corresponding to the steepness of the climb. Then you can turn off the handbrake or release the foot brake pedal. In this case, also work out the coordination of actions and the force of pressing the gas pedal. Please note that on a strong rise, cars with a "budget" automatic may roll back due to the slip of the torque converter.
