The main function of the propeller shaft cross is the transmission of torque from the gearbox to all units and parts of the car. Therefore, the crosspiece is a very important mechanism: if it fails, an urgent replacement is required.
Necessary
- - grinder;
- - drill;
- - cutter,
- - vice;
- - ruler;
- - round file.
Instructions
Step 1
First, remove the propeller shaft so that it is easier to carry out the work on replacing the cross. Take a grinder and use it to cut off the two ends of the cross, which are pressed into the propeller shaft. Then carefully knock them inward. Look carefully into the holes that are for the bearings, there you will see that they were fixed using a method very similar to punching.
Step 2
For the successful implementation of further work, prepare a drill and a small diameter cutter (about 3-5 mm). After that, clamp the flange in a vice, which has the remaining straight section of the cross. Using a drill or cutter, carefully cut off the punch marks on one side. Make sure not to damage the bore diameter, but you do not need to pay special attention to the bearing races.
Step 3
On the opposite side, knock out the straight part - this is the last thing left of the cross. Put on the clips that survived. After that, pick up a measuring tool (ruler or vernier caliper), measure the length and go to the store to purchase a new part. Also buy a core and file set.
Step 4
Use a round file to remove all “nip points” on the flange and on the universal joint. After that, "drown" the clips in the opposite mounting holes to an equal depth. Make sure that this operation is performed as accurately and accurately as possible, because the service life of a new part depends on it.
Step 5
Open the clips, for this, first make two points in each of the holes of the universal joint and flange. Make sure that this is done strictly between the factory points. Then reinstall the gimbal and test it in action. Periodically check the propeller shaft after self-repair and, in case of defects, immediately repair them.
