Rear-wheel drive cars, technically, cannot do without a cardan transmission. With its help, the torque from the engine is transmitted to the rear wheels and the car moves. Therefore, its technical condition must be at the highest level. Otherwise, on the road, the cardan transmission may break off and create, thereby, an emergency. One of the weak points on it is the cross, which should be replaced periodically.
Necessary
- - clamp;
- - hammer with a wooden drift;
- - open-end wrench 13, 17;
- - socket head 13;
- - FIOL-2U grease;
- - vice.
Instructions
Step 1
Disassemble the cardan transmission. To do this, place the vehicle on an inspection pit or lift. In the first case, fix the front wheels by placing stops-shoes on both sides. Release the "handbrake", put the gearshift lever in neutral position. Raise the rear axle so the wheels can rotate freely. Remove the safety bracket.
Step 2
Lock the elastic coupling and loosen the bolt nuts while turning the shaft. Pull them out and remove the retainer. Disconnect the rear part of the propeller shaft from the rear gearbox by unscrewing four self-locking nuts with a 13 open-end wrench. Remove the parking brake cable spring. Take the socket at 13 and disconnect the outboard bearing from the car body. Remove the cardan drive by pushing it towards the front of the car.
Step 3
Clean and wash the shafts, check the joints for smoothness and ease of turning the forks. Examine the crosspiece. If there are violations, namely knocking and destruction of bearings, then it should be replaced. To do this, mark the mating parts in order to install them in their original place during disassembly, this will not disturb the centering of the cardan transmission. Install the front shaft in a vise. Take a pair of pliers and remove the spider retaining rings. Label these to also fit in place when reassembled.
Step 4
Take a clamp or a wooden drift with a hammer and press out the spider bearings. Check their seats, they should not be flared, otherwise replace the plug. Take a new crosspiece, lubricate its spikes (apply a thin layer so that an air cushion does not form) and bearings with PIOL-2U grease.
Step 5
Insert the crosspiece into the plug. Put the bearing housings with the needles on them and press them in so that you can fix them with the circlip. Install the latter in place. Check the axial travel of the cross. Taking into account the gap, install the appropriate circlip, which has five sizes in thickness and painted in a specific color: 1.5 mm (unpainted), 1.53 mm (dark brown), 1.56 mm (blue), 1, 59mm (black), 1.62mm (yellow). Assemble the cardan gear in the reverse order, remembering to lubricate the splines with FIOL-2U grease and replace the bolts and nuts securing the rear part to the main gear reducer.
