In order to remove the hub on a VAZ-2109, the car must be installed on a viewing pit or flat area, brake with a parking brake and set bars or wheel chocks under the rear wheels. You also need to prepare stands for the car body.

Tools and equipment

To carry out work on removing the front wheel hub on the VAZ-2109, you will need the following tools and devices:

- jack;

- balloon wrench;

- socket head for the hub nut;

- wrenches for 12, 17 and 19;

- screwdriver;

- a mandrel for pressing out the hub bearing.

Sequence of work

With the vehicle stationary on the ground, remove the hub nut protective cap and loosen the nut. Then use the socket head to loosen the hub nut and the wheel bolts. The hub nut is tightened with great effort, so you will have to use some kind of lever to unscrew it, for example, a suitable piece of pipe.

Next, raise the car with a jack and place an emphasis under it. Working without support is strongly discouraged. Now you can completely unscrew the hub nut and remove the wheel.

Removing the hub destroys the bearing, so press out the hub only to replace the bearing.

Then remove the brake disc by first unscrewing the two bolts securing the brake cylinder to the steering knuckle. Without disconnecting the brake hose, remove the entire brake assembly and suspend it with a wire on the strut spring. Make sure that the brake hose is not stretched or kinked.

Clean the brake disc from dust and dirt with a wire brush. Apply WD-40 fluid grease to the hub and brake disc junction. Leave it on for 30-40 minutes until the rust dissolves. Unscrew the guide pins and remove the brake disc, tapping with a mallet if necessary, trying to hit closer to the center of the disc.

Mark the position of the eccentric bolt relative to the strut body with a marker and loosen the nuts on the bolts securing the steering knuckle to the strut. Remove the bolts securing the ball joint to the steering knuckle.

Unscrew completely the nuts on the bolts securing the steering knuckle to the bracket on the A-pillar, remove the bolts and remove the knuckle from the rack.

If there is no special mandrel, you can press out the hub using old bearing rings.

Press the hub out of the bearing inner race using a drift. If part of the ring remains on the hub, remove it with a special puller; there are special recesses on the hub for this.

Remove the retaining rings from both sides of the steering knuckle and press out the bearing using a special mandrel.

This completes the work on removing the hub and pressing out the bearing on the VAZ-2109. Before installing a new bearing on the hub, pre-install the outer circlip.
