Instructions
Step 1
Find complete and detailed instructions for complete disassembly of your vehicle's gearbox. It can be included in the repair manual. You can also find it in the technical literature sold at auto parts stores. Various gearboxes can be very different from each other in terms of internal structure, and when disassembling them, you should observe all the nuances and know the design features.
Step 2
Remove the box from the car. Clean and wash the outside of the cabinet. Remove the oil dipstick. Disconnect the gear shift lever. Unscrew all nuts securing the housing covers and remove them. When disassembling the gearbox, strictly follow the instructions.
Step 3
Consider the common features of gearbox disassembly that are common to almost all models. The input and output shaft nuts are very tight and require a lot of force to loosen them. Do not disassemble synchronizers and shift forks unnecessarily. After removing the synchronizers, wrap them with plastic wrap or tape so that they do not fall apart.
Step 4
Replace all O-rings with new ones. Remove the unscrewed bolts previously set on the glue from the old glue layer, and apply a fresh one during assembly. Inspect the crankcases for cracks, chips, dents and nicks. Smooth out minor defects with sandpaper. Replace parts if large damage is found.
Step 5
Assess the condition of the bearings and their seats. Bearings should be free from play, seizure and squeaks during rotation. The seating surfaces in the crankcases must be free of damage and wear. Replace bent, worn and damaged gear shift rods and forks with new ones.
Step 6
Inspect the edges of the axle shaft seals. They must be even, without any defects. Replace them if necessary, and preferably - put new oil seals in all mechanisms. Clean the magnet and check its magnetic properties. If it is damaged or deteriorated, also replace it.
Step 7
Assemble the gearbox in reverse order. Lubricate all rubbing surfaces generously with gear oil. Install the magnet. Seal the mating surfaces of the rear cover, gearbox and clutch housings. If during the repair you changed the crankcases, housings or bearings of the differentials, select a new bearing shim. Fill with fresh oil after assembly and installation.
