A common problem in used cars is a crack or hole in the gas tank. It is not easy to ignore this defect, as gasoline will leak, but it is dangerous. There are several ways to seal the hole in the tank.

Necessary

  • - laundry soap;
  • - cold welding;
  • - acetone;
  • - fiberglass;
  • - epoxy adhesive;
  • - soldering iron;
  • - solder, tin, soldering acid;
  • - welding machine and electrodes.

Instructions

Step 1

Seal the small puncture hole in the tank with laundry soap. Just rub the surface around the hole with it.

Step 2

Try cold welding the hole in the gas tank. To do this, stop the flow of gasoline. If it is not possible to remove the tank, rub the gap with laundry soap - the flow will temporarily stop. With thinner, carefully remove excess (but not all soap) and degrease the surface. Using an emery cloth, rub the area around the hole to improve grip. Then take a cold weld (preferably a liquid one) and seal the crack so as to capture the edges by 2-3 cm.

Step 3

To improve the insulation of the tank, glue it with glass cloth soaked in epoxy glue. After the cold welding dries (after 10-15 minutes), take a plastic bag, put a piece of fiberglass of the right size on it and apply epoxy glue evenly with an unnecessary laminated or plastic card. Then attach the bag to the hole in the gas tank and gently spread (the second layer of the bag will move freely) and straighten. Through the bag you can see where the fabric is impregnated with glue and where it is not. In this way, glue at least 3-4 layers of fabric.

Step 4

Try to solder the large hole. To do this, drain the gasoline as much as possible and ensure that the leak stops. Sand the area around the hole with sandpaper, degrease. Then tin with tin. Also grind a suitable sheet of tin with emery and tin. Apply to the leaky spot and solder, heating with a soldering iron. Tin the plate soldered to the tank with a generous amount of tin.

Step 5

To be completely confident in your gas tank, weld it. First, you need to completely expel gasoline vapors from the tank, for this, put it on the exhaust pipe and gas. Take the welder and weld the hole.
