The thermostat has a very useful function in car operation. He switches the movement of the fluid, directs it either in a large circle or in a small one. A kind of traffic controller that maintains the temperature of the internal combustion engine.

Necessary

  • - hexagon 5;
  • - socket wrench for 13 with a deep head;
  • - socket or box wrench for 8;
  • - capacity;
  • - screwdrivers.

Instructions

Step 1

Remove the negative terminal from the battery. You will be doing the work under the hood, and there are a lot of electrical wires that can be accidentally caught, causing a short circuit. Now that the machine is de-energized, you need a container to drain the coolant. If the engine protection is in the way, remove it.

Step 2

Place a container under the drain hole on the radiator and unscrew the cap. The cooling system on "Kalina" is sealed, so the liquid will pour out after unscrewing the expansion tank cap. It is the plug that regulates the flow of fluid from the radiator.

Step 3

Open the stove tap to drain the system as much as possible. When the liquid from the radiator is completely drained, place a container under the drain hole in the engine block, and then unscrew the cap bolt. Only after the entire system has been drained, proceed with the repair of the thermostat.

Step 4

Remove the air filter housing to make room under the hood. When access to the thermostat is easier, you need to remove all pipes that fit to it. It is easier to do this with a ring or socket wrench for 8, but you can also use a screwdriver. Next, you need to disconnect the thermostat housing. This should be done with a 5 Allen key. Between the halves of the thermostat you will find an O-ring, which is best replaced.

Step 5

Remove the fuser from the housing. You can only replace it, leaving the old case. But this does not always help, since the element may have dimensions that are different from the dimensions of the body. This will make the thermostat unreliable. Therefore, it is best to replace the complete thermostat assembly. This requires a few more steps to remove the second half of the thermostat. First, remove the block that is connected to the temperature sensor.

Step 6

Take a 13 deep socket wrench. With this key, unscrew the nut that secures the ground wire to the thermostat housing. They also need to unscrew the nuts that will pull the body to the engine block. Pull the housing and remove it from the studs. It is likely that the gasket may tear, stick to the surface. Therefore, it is necessary to clean the surface on the engine block that comes into contact with the thermostat before assembly.

Step 7

Take a new thermostat and lubricate the surface that comes in contact with the engine block with sealant. The surface on the engine must also be sealed with a sealant. You do not need to apply it in a thick layer, the main thing is to get rid of small irregularities that can pass liquid. Let stand for 5-10 minutes, then install the gasket and thermostat housing. Tighten the nuts carefully, just not completely. The final tightening is best done when the sealant is dry.

Step 8

Put the pipes on the thermostat. First, you need to lubricate the surface of the thermostat, which is in contact with the nozzles, with a sealant. It is necessary to use new clamps, as the old ones could become unusable from exposure to high temperatures. After assembly, tightening all threaded connections, connecting the temperature sensor, you need to pour coolant into the system and get rid of air plugs.
