Do-it-yourself car window tinting is a simple and much less expensive process compared to the services of auto repair shops. Everything that is needed from the materials is available in the trade, and the process will take a little time.

Step 1
To prepare for self-tinting, start by choosing and purchasing a tinting film. Such a film is made of polystyrene of various shades with a metallized coating. Thus, the color of the glasses will be determined by the choice of the color of the film. The film is sold in rolls in stores specializing in the sale of automotive cosmetics and materials for car repair and maintenance. Check with your dealer for the length and width of the tape. Usually, one roll is enough to tint the front windows and the windows of the passengers in the back seat.
Step 2
A spatula is needed to smooth the film and remove air bubbles during the gluing process. It should be soft enough not to scratch. If the shape of the glasses is curved, then you will additionally need a building hair dryer. You can take a regular clerical knife. Such knives are quite sharp, and this is exactly what is required of him.
Step 3
First of all, thoroughly wash the car and especially the glass so as to ensure that traces of oil or grease are removed from their surface. Use a special glass cleaner. Make sure that the room where you will tint the glass is clean, not dusty and light enough. It is not recommended to stick the film on the street.
Step 4
Dismantle the glass and remove the seals. This will help to make the tinting more accurate and increase the lifespan of the film. If it is difficult to dismantle the glass, then try to cut the films as accurately as possible so as not to leave thin strips of non-tinted glass near the seals. Take tracing paper or heavy paper. When placing the paper on the glass, cut it to fit the shape of the glass. Thus, you will have templates at your disposal that will make it easy to cut the film.
Step 5
Spray the diluted liquid soap onto the clean glass from the side of the vehicle interior. Stick the film with the dark side down, gradually peeling it off the base. Smooth with a spatula from the middle to the edge, removing any air bubbles. Try to smoothen the edges more gently as the risks of cracks and delamination are subsequently higher in these places. Remove soap solution residues with prepared napkins or rags.
Step 6
If the glasses are curved, then your task is to take into account the shape of the curvature at the stage of making the template. Prepare a paper template with a 10 mm margin. When the film is cut, place it on the soapy glass and stretch it a little along the curved profile of the glass. Use a blow dryer to lightly heat the film at the greatest curvature of the glass, remove air bubbles and soap residues. Trim the excess film with a knife. For better adhesion of the film, do not lower the glass for a week from the date of application.
