Riding a motorcycle without a helmet is not a good idea. After all, it protects the head in case of an accident, fall, protects the eyes from pebbles flying out from under the wheels. But how to choose the right motorcycle helmet among the huge range of products on offer?
Instructions
Step 1
If you have a sports bike, buy an integral type helmet. It is optimal for protection, with good aerodynamics and sound insulation, but quite heavy. This is not suitable for people who wear glasses.
Step 2
Helmets of the "Modular" type are also optimal in terms of protection. This is a compromise between open and closed, so it is suitable for those who ride with glasses. In some models, the chin part can be removed, then the helmet becomes open.
Step 3
If you don't drive too fast and the main thing for you is not protection, but visibility and good audibility, buy a three-quarter helmet. It's open and fairly lightweight with eye protection. These are often used for learning to ride a motorcycle.
Step 4
The lightest helmets are half helmets. But they do not protect the eyes at all, because there is no glass in such models. But they are quite acceptable for the price. So if you are sure that your ride will be trouble-free, stop at such a model.
Step 5
The material from which the helmet is made is also quite important. These accessories are available in two versions: fiberglass and thermoplastic. The first ones last longer, protect them more easily, are adapted for coloring, stickers adhere well to them. But the latter are cheaper and lighter in weight.
Step 6
Be sure to try on the motorcycle helmet you want to purchase. It should sit snugly on your head, not crush or dangle when you move your head. Try sticking your thumb between the helmet and your forehead. If it didn't work out, it fits you. Please note that the fastened chin strap should also fit snugly. Wear your helmet for about 5 minutes. This is the only way you can understand whether it will be comfortable for you to wear it.
