A knock in the area of the wheel arches or a fluid leak on the front shock absorbers of the Lada Kalina car indicate the need to replace them. This process is quite laborious, but it is quite possible to carry out it yourself.

About a day before the start of work, all connections of the front pillar of the Lada Kalina car should be treated with WD-40 grease, this will facilitate loosening of the sour nuts and will allow you to change the front pillar without any problems.

Tool

For work, you will need to prepare the necessary tools and accessories:

Wrenches 13, 17, 19, special wrench for the upper shock absorber nut.

You will also need a spring puller, a device for pressing out the steering rod pin, a jack, a wheel wrench.

Operating procedure

Park the vehicle on a level surface, place wheel chocks under the rear wheels and brake with the parking brake. Loosen the front wheel bolts.

The front suspension struts are only replaced by a pair. If one fails, both change, regardless of the state of the other.

Jack up the front of the vehicle, place the stops and remove the front wheels. To avoid short circuits, disconnect the terminals and remove the battery.

Remove the rubber seal together with the brake hose from the bracket on the A-pillar. On a vehicle with ABS installed, the wheel rotation sensor must be disconnected and removed.

Unbend and pull out the cotter pin securing the ball joint nut of the steering rod. Unscrew the nut and press the ball joint pin out of the A-pillar pivot arm. To press out, use a special puller; it is strongly not recommended to hit with a hammer.

Memorize or sketch the position of the upper eccentric bolt relative to the strut bracket so that the bolt can be reassembled in the same position. This will allow you to approximately save the alignment.

Unscrew the two nuts and remove both bolts securing the suspension strut to the steering knuckle. Remove the steering knuckle eyelet from the A-pillar bracket.

Inside the engine compartment, unscrew the three nuts securing the strut to the front glass. Keep the stand from falling out! Take out the stand down through the niche for the front wheel.

The arrow marked on the top of the rack should point forward.

Install the front telescopic shock absorber in the reverse order. When installing, do not forget to install the eccentric washer in its original position and, keeping the bolt from turning, tighten the nut.

After completing all installation work, it is imperative to check and adjust the alignment angles on a special stand.
