Lada Kalina is a people's car. And as it should be for a people's car, it is simple in terms of design and maintainable. Many operations related to the maintenance and repair of a car are available for self-fulfillment in a home garage, including replacing spark plugs.

It is necessary

  • - new candles;
  • - key for 10;
  • - candle wrench 16;
  • - round styli.

Instructions

Step 1

According to the requirements of the operating instructions, replace standard spark plugs with new ones every 30 thousand kilometers; candles with platinum or iridium electrodes - every 60 thousand. Use only those plugs recommended by the manufacturer.

Step 2

Open the hood and remove the decorative shroud from the engine. On a 16-valve engine, depress the latch and disconnect the harness connector at the ignition module. Remove the ignition module retaining bolt located on the head cover. Then remove the module from the spark plug channel. On an 8-valve engine, remove the ignition coil and high voltage wire lug from the spark plug. Using a candle wrench, unscrew the candle and remove it from the candle well. After that, remove the candle from the rubber sleeve of the wrench by hand. Remove the spark plugs from the remaining engine cylinders in the same way.

Step 3

If the spark plug wrench does not have a rubber bushing or a magnetic insert, do this using the ignition module or the tip of the high-voltage wire. To do this, put the tip of the module or high-voltage wire on the spark plug insulator and remove it from the installation socket. Inspect the removed plug and determine the condition of the engine by its appearance.

Step 4

On new spark plugs, measure the gap with a round feeler gauge. Do not use blade probes - measurement results will be incorrect. It should be in the range of 1.0-1.1 mm. If the clearance differs from the recommended value, adjust it. To correct it, bend the side electrode up or down. Never adjust the gap by bending the center electrode - this will break the spark plug insulator. Since the gap most often increases during operation, it is recommended to set it to a value of 1.0 mm.

Step 5

When installing new candles, first screw them in by hand, without using a special tool. If the new plug does not fit the threads, you will feel resistance to rotation. In this case, unscrew the plug and make sure that its threads are not dirty. If there is dirt, clean the threads and screw in the plug again. If the threads are clean, select a different plug to fit the engine. After that, tighten them with a candle wrench, inserting an extension cord into its knob. The recommended tightening torque is 30-40 Nm. Excessive tightening torque can damage the threads in the plug holes in the block head.
