Some car owners question the information about the year of manufacture of the car indicated in the vehicle passport (PTS). This issue is of particular concern to those who purchase new vehicles at the beginning of the year through dealerships. Car dealerships, they believe, have an agreement with customs offices: for those cars that were not sold last year, dealers receive new PTSs with an indication of the "fresh" year of production. Is this really so or just another bike of the automotive industry?
Instructions
Step 1
Check the serial number of the vehicle. It is indicated in the front of the vehicle in the line "1. Identification number (VIN)". The identification number (VIN) consists of 17 characters (Arabic letters and numbers), which are conventionally divided into three parts: the manufacturer's world index, a descriptive part and an index part.
Step 2
The first three characters of the VIN, which can be both letters and letters and numbers, are the manufacturer's world index (from the English WMI -) and define the geographical area, state code and car manufacturer's code. The VIN Descriptive Part (VDS) consists of six characters and designates the vehicle model in accordance with the manufacturer's documentation. The VIN Indicator (VIS) contains eight characters: the first four are letters or numbers, the last four are numbers only. The VIN indicator part contains information about the year of manufacture and the serial number of the vehicle received when leaving the factory assembly line.
Step 3
The year of manufacture of the vehicle is indicated by the first symbol of the leading part of the serial (identification) number. Simply put - the tenth character from the beginning or the eighth from the end of the VIN: WVWZZZ1KZBW321177. The indicated symbol can be deciphered according to the table (Appendix No. 2 to the "Regulations on passports of vehicles and chassis of vehicles" at: https://base.consultant.ru/cons/cgi/online.cgi?req=doc;base=LAW; n = 112220). In the given example WVWZZZ1KZBW321177 character "B" denotes the year of manufacture 2011.
Step 4
It should be noted that some car manufacturers are deviating from the generally accepted standards for assigning a VIN code. For example, the US car factories and the Ford concern designate the year of manufacture in the place of the eleventh VIN symbol.
