Often when selling a car, many car owners try to hide its real production date. But the year of the car can also be found by the VIN body number, it is indicated directly on the car itself.
Instructions
Step 1
Remember, the year of manufacture is usually determined by the VIN, which complies with certain international standards. But by the body itself, you will not be able to determine the immediate date of production of the car, since you can simply find out the model year from it.
Step 2
Keep in mind that each car manufacturer defines numbers very differently, so the international standard for VINs is indicative only. The number plate is located under the hood of the car. If there is no pointer, then pay attention to the indicator on the cross member under the bumper or in front of the frame. Sometimes the number can be found along the top edge of the open bonnet.
Step 3
Pay attention to the tenth position of the VIN, it denotes the model year. If the car was produced in 1980 or 2010, then there will be the letter A, which corresponds to the 10th number. If the car is 1987, then H will be indicated, but 1998 will be under the letter J. A car produced in 1992 comes with N, in 1993 - P, and in 94 - R. A car produced in 1997 is indicated in the VIN code by the letter V. Then, starting from 2000, numbering will be used, and accordingly if the car was released in 2009, then it will have the number 9. Then comes the use of the Latin alphabet again, only without using the following letters: Y, O, Q, U and Z …
Step 4
Use a special online service on the Internet to decrypt the VIN code if you still could not figure out the year of issue. Also, do not trust only the body number, as it does not contain complete data on the car's production. Therefore, in addition to checking the VIN, also look at the accompanying documents, since it is in them that the exact date of issue of the car is indicated.
Step 5
Pay attention to the electrical wires and cables under the hood, because they also carry reliable information. Also look at the windshield, where the last two digits of the number are the year of its manufacture, which should always coincide with the year of manufacture of the car itself. Of course, if it has not changed.
