When selling their car, some car owners hide the real date of its production. You can determine the moment of release of the car by accompanying documents or by information that can be found directly on the vehicle. If the year of manufacture cannot be found, then you can use any reliable information that the customs authority can provide during customs clearance.

Step 1
The year of manufacture of the car must be indicated in the documents that come with the vehicle from the manufacturers. It can be any shipping documents or invoices.
Step 2
In many cases, the year of issue is determined by a special VIN number, which is issued in accordance with international standards. In its tenth position, the model year of the vehicle is indicated, but it may not coincide with the calendar year, and therefore with the year of manufacture. This is why VIN data are considered approximate.
Step 3
The international VIN standard is only indicative, and each car manufacturer can determine its position independently. Sometimes this number does not contain information about the date of issue, or other positions are used to designate it. For more information on the VIN code, contact the local representative of the company that produced your car. Please note that the model year starts on July 1st.
Step 4
In some cases, the year of manufacture is determined by the numbers of the engine, body, chassis or gearbox. The release data can also be found on the seat belt tags and on the glass (last two digits of the number).
Step 5
When determining the actual production date of your car, it is best to be guided by both the VIN decoding and the information in the relevant documents provided by the vehicle manufacturer.
Step 6
Often the production date is printed on electrical cables and wires in the engine compartment of a vehicle. If it was not possible to find reliable information, then you can order an examination in customs laboratories, which most accurately establish the date of release.
