When a car owner sets out to determine the year the engine was manufactured, some problems arise. Some argue that this can be done by his number, others - that he does not carry any information. If you know for sure that the engine was released along with your car, then you can determine the year of manufacture by the body number.
It is necessary
- - the car for which you need to determine the year of manufacture;
- - computer and internet connection.
Instructions
Step 1
Find the VIN (body number) on your vehicle. Every car has it, and with its help you can find out not only the year of manufacture of the car and engine, but also other technical details, its original equipment. Usually, the body number is knocked out on the car itself, it is indicated under the hood or elsewhere in the car, but you can also find it in the technical passport.
Step 2
Look at the symbol of the found VIN number, which is in the tenth position. It will be either a number or a letter. This symbol encodes the year of manufacture of the vehicle. The letter A indicates that the car was produced either in 1980 or in 2010. The letter H stands for 1987, N for 1992, P for 1993, R for 1994, V for 1997, J for 1998.
Step 3
If you find a digit in the tenth position of the body number, this means that your car was produced after 2000, from which the numbering begins. Thus, if the car was produced in 2003, then you will find the number 3. Since 2010, the numbering ends, and the letters of the Latin alphabet are used again. Only now the letters O, Q, U, Y and Z are no longer used.
Step 4
Since each manufacturer can encrypt the year of release in its own way, use one of the online services better. You only need to find out the VIN number from the technical passport of the car, and the service intended for this will decrypt it.
Step 5
You can determine the production date by looking at other car parts as well. It is often indicated on wires and cables under the hood. Chances are, the windshield is the same model year as the car, if it hasn't been changed. Look at the windshield number. Its last two digits indicate the year of manufacture.
