BMW iX is the debut all-electric crossover from the Bavarian concern. The start of sales is scheduled for the end of 2021. The assembly of the model will be carried out by the plant in Dingolfing. The charged crossover will hit markets around the world.
The price of the new product starts at $ 70,000. Despite this, the appearance of the iX aroused a keen interest not only among electric car owners, but also among all connoisseurs of the German brand. The manufacturer positions the novelty as its technological flagship.
The new product is similar in size to the X5. The Bavarians are in no hurry to advertise the exact dimensions, since there is still time for their changes. Only the size of the wheelbase is known: it is 3 m, which is only 25 mm more than that of the BMW X5.
The appearance of the production car largely duplicates the concept car presented a couple of years ago. The exterior strongly distinguishes the novelty in the range of BMW SUVs. The first thing that catches your eye is a large plug that imitates the branded "nostrils" of the radiator grille. They are entrusted with a very unusual task. They are completely "deaf", that is, their function is not to cool the radiator, but to protect cameras, radars and other sensors as much as possible, which this model has with interest. There are so many of them not by chance. It's all to blame for the semi-autonomous driving option.
It is noteworthy that these "nostrils" are made of the so-called self-healing material: minor scratches will be removed by themselves within 24 hours. Such a "miracle" is possible only at room temperature.
Narrow front and rear LED optics catch the eye. For an additional fee, it is possible to install a laser high beam.
The model has frameless doors without traditional handles. The opening is carried out using buttons.
Thanks to the aerodynamic body, the drag coefficient is 0.25. For a crossover, this is an excellent indicator.
Minimalism reigns in the cabin. However, it is replete with various sensors and sensors. The gaze immediately lingers on the polygonal steering wheel and curved display. The latter is inscribed in the panel so that it is practically invisible. The display is designed according to the shy tech principle, that is, only what he needs at the moment appears in front of the driver's eyes.
According to the manufacturer, the steering wheel of an unusual shape is very convenient to intercept. It symbolizes the transition to a new era of driving. The model will be equipped with a third level autopilot, which will not require the driver to keep his hands on the steering wheel.
The iX3 has two electric motors installed at the back and front. Their total capacity is over 370 kW, which is equal to 500 "horses". Acceleration to "hundreds" takes less than 5 seconds. On a single charge, the model is capable of driving 600 km. True, only the top version can do this. The basic electric car will cover at least 400 km on a single charge.
