Instructions

Step 1

Define the shape of the future carbon hood. For example, it can be a hood with side gills. Make a matrix like a cast from the hood: to do this, on the original hood, make all the "build-ups" that will copy the carbon hood.

Step 2

Make a matrix out of plaster. Dilute a small portion of gypsum to the consistency of sour cream and pour it on the hood in a layer of 5-10 mm. To make the matrix move away from the hood, lubricate it with polish and in those places where the modeling will be, lay cling film.

Step 3

Wait a few days until the cast is dry. Use a styrofoam sheet and polyurethane foam sealant to increase the durability of the item. After that, squeeze the foam sealant in a thin path through the entire hood, and then make several more paths from the middle (50 cm each), attach the foam on top, level it and let it stand for a day.

Step 4

This sheet will be the reinforcement for the carbon fiber hood and the support for the matrix. Blow out the gaps between the "shell" and the foam sheet in small parts (the pause when blowing out individual parts should be about a day, otherwise the matrix can be strongly driven).

Step 5

Wait a few more days (the foam sealant should harden and the plaster should dry up). Then separate the die from the hood. Since the central part of the selected hood modification is deepened, glue the growths to it (plasticine, paper, putty or any other material).

Step 6

Before bonding the bonnet, release a die coat. To do this, cover its surface with varnish, and on top with polish.

Step 7

Cut the fiberglass fabric into several layers. Put one layer in the matrix, dilute the epoxy and apply it on top with a brush. Then lay out the second layer of fiberglass and heat the entire surface with a hairdryer: the epoxy will completely saturate the entire fabric.

Step 8

Glue the subsequent layers of fiberglass as follows: apply epoxy and cover it with fiberglass, warm everything up with a hairdryer, wipe and wait. Ideally, five layers should be glued. Do not rush to remove the hood from the matrix: be patient for a couple of weeks, otherwise, if removed prematurely, the blank will have to be thrown away.

Step 9

Carefully separate the hood from the matrix, cut off all the rags and try on the product instead of the original car hood. Then start sanding: first sand with 40-60 grit sandpaper, then apply a layer of fiberglass putty, let dry and sand again, and finally apply a layer of regular putty and sand.

Step 10

Paint the carbon fiber hood and when it dries, replace the original hood.
