An engine heater can be purchased easily and simply at any car dealership. But some car owners, for some reason, want to make it on their own from improvised parts. Fortunately, this does not require expensive tools and equipment, and deep engineering knowledge is not required at all.
It is necessary
- - weapon sleeve 12 mm;
- - heating plug;
- - relay;
- - wires with copper conductors;
- - drill with a thin drill;
- - tap
Instructions
Step 1
Drill two different holes in the side wall and in the bottom of the gun case. The side should be small in diameter and suitable for wire routing. Calculate the hole at the bottom in such a way that you can cut a thread in it for a prepared candle. Using a tap matching the thread of the candle, cut the threads and secure the candle in the sleeve.
Step 2
Drill a hole for the sleeve on the intake manifold of the engine. Install a heater in this hole with a candle inside the pipeline, fix and seal. Use soldering or welding for fastening. For sealing - sealing tape and sealing compound. After installation, be sure to check the connection point for fuel leaks.
Step 3
Lead two power wires to the candle and connect them to the battery without reversing the polarity. Be sure to include the fuse, trip relay and switch in the electrical circuit. Fix the latter in the car where it is convenient for you. Insulate all wire connections carefully. Seal the connection points of the wires to the heater. To protect the structure, use a felt material over the body of the heater.
Step 4
Before installing the heater, carefully check its operation. It must function clearly and accurately. Before starting the engine in cold weather, turn on your home-made heater in advance, which will heat the fuel in the intake manifold, and will greatly facilitate starting even in severe frost. After the heater heats up the fuel, turn it off. To automatically turn off the heater after the end of the work, set the relay.
Step 5
If your engine is V-shaped or opposed, install two such heaters, on both sides, on the suction pipes. In this case, one heater will not be able to fully provide fuel heating.
