Accurate knowledge of fuel consumption will help the car owner better navigate when planning long-distance trips, calculating his budget. An empty tank in the middle of the journey will hardly please anyone.
One of the ways to check fuel consumption on VAZ cars is to install a device specially designed for this purpose - a flow meter. However, you can do it easier and not complicate the electrical circuit of the car with various modifications. The need to know the consumption of gasoline does not always arise from "sports interest". For example, it sometimes makes sense to compare the efficiency of an engine before and after a major overhaul.
Determination of fuel consumption
First you need to decide on the route of movement - you will have to drive 10 km. In this case, it is necessary to take into account the nature of the movement - city driving, suburban highway or mixed cycle. You should purchase gasoline in a canister in advance so that you can fill the tank up to capacity.
Next, put the car on a level place and add fuel to the gas tank to the very neck. Prepare a measuring container of 10 liters with minimum divisions of no more than 0.5 liters (you can use a thoroughly washed oil canister - there are almost always divisions on such containers). Make sure in advance that the speedometer works and shows the kilometers traveled correctly.
Now you can hit the road. It is necessary to drive exactly 10 km (determined by the distance traveled meter, taking into account hundreds of meters). As soon as the required number of kilometers has been covered, stop the car and add fuel from the measuring container to the fuel tank to the level of the neck, as it was before leaving. You will see the fuel consumption for 10 km on the scale on the measuring canister. It remains to multiply the amount of gasoline poured into the tank by 10 and you get the gasoline consumption per hundred kilometers. Ideally, such an experiment is best done at least three times to determine the arithmetic mean.
How to control fuel consumption
If you have a VAZ car of brands 21099, 2114, 2115, etc., then to control the consumption of gasoline, you can install an external on-board computer that can show instantaneous fuel consumption. Such a device will surely discipline the driver; when, with a sharp jerk from a standstill (for example, at a traffic light), you see that the gas consumption is off scale for 20 liters per hundred, the foot will involuntarily release the accelerator pedal. Aggressive or sporty driving increases fuel consumption by 15-20%, and an abrupt start of movement or the same stop takes an additional 5%.
Another equally important point is the use of high-quality oil (it is better to use semi-synthetics), which can reduce the engine's energy consumption for friction. Tire pressure also matters - it should not be below normal. In any case, it should be remembered that one of the main rules for achieving minimum fuel consumption is compliance with factory recommendations.
