Step 1
Petrol.
Since gasoline is widespread, diesel fuel is often diluted with it. It should be borne in mind that diesel fuel diluted in this way negatively affects the life of the cylinder-piston group. Diesel fuel itself performs lubricating functions for the parts of the fuel pump and injectors. Dilution with gasoline impairs the lubricating properties of diesel fuel. The recommended ratio is 25% gasoline to the total volume of the fuel to be diluted. Gasoline should be used with an octane rating of 76 or 82.
Step 2
Kerosene.
Diesel fuel diluted with kerosene improves the anti-helium properties of diesel fuel and almost does not affect the life of the diesel engine. Many anti-helium diesel additives are based on kerosene. Diluting diesel fuel with kerosene is a common thing in the Far North. Kerosene is added in the amount of 10-20% of the total volume of the fuel being diluted so that the diesel fuel does not freeze up to temperatures of -40 degrees. Practice has proven that even long-term operation of the engine on this fuel mixture does not significantly affect its service life.
Attention should be drawn to the difference between aviation kerosene and kerosene poured into blowtorches. Aviation kerosene is capable of igniting from a spark, and even from static voltage. Therefore, a diesel engine fueled with such a fuel mixture must be statically protected.
Step 3
Anti-helium additives. Significantly more expensive than gasoline and kerosene. However, this is the safest option for diluting diesel fuel. Both for the engine resource and in the sense of fire safety. When using additives, be sure to make sure that there is no water in the tank. The fact is that the surfactants contained in the additives disperse water (distribute it throughout the volume). After that, it is impossible to separate the water from the diesel fuel. Water for a diesel engine is even more harmful than paraffins and can mechanically destroy the engine.
