After a major overhaul or replacement of the engine with a new one, it is necessary to carry out its initial run-in. Correctly running in the motor, you will significantly increase the service life of all its elements and avoid their unforeseen breakdowns.
Instructions
Step 1
After installing a new engine, it must be started correctly. Since this will make the crankshaft turn slowly, charge the battery to full capacity. Check starter. It must be absolutely serviceable.
Step 2
Fill with engine oil up to the upper level of the dipstick. Please note that when running in the engine, it is necessary to use only high-quality oils that correspond in their characteristics to the operating time of the year and the operating temperature range. The oil filter must be dry during installation.
Step 3
If the engine does not have an electric fuel pump, supply fuel manually until the float chamber is full. Close the air damper, in the absence of an automatic drive, as required by the ambient temperature.
Step 4
Start the engine with a starter. At the same time, using a pressure gauge or indicators on the dashboard, monitor the oil pressure. When it rises to the level of 3, 5 - 4 kg / cm2, warm up the engine at idle speed to a temperature of 85 - 93 degrees.
Step 5
Turn on the radiator fan. After waiting for it to "work out", turn off the engine. When it warms up, blue smoke may appear from under the hood, indicating that the oil layer brought in during the assembly and installation of the engine has burned out. The smoke will disappear after a short time.
Step 6
Let the engine cool down to 30-40 degrees and start again. Perform 15 to 20 of these cycles, and then proceed to the break-in at higher rpm: for the first three minutes, raise them to 1000 per minute, four minutes - 1500, five minutes - 2000.
Step 7
Start running in the engine on the fly. Do not allow the speed to increase in direct gear above 60 - 70 km / h. Don't use 5th gear at all yet. Please note that the first 300 - 500 km from the muffler may erupt blue smoke, which is natural for the engine to operate during this period. After driving 500 - 1000 km, adjust the speed.
Step 8
After 2500 - 3000 km, increase the speed to 90 km / h. Replace the initial run-in with normal but gentle engine operation, increasing the load gradually. After the mileage indicator approaches 10-15 thousand km, you can increase the load as much as possible.
