The better the coolant in the system, the less chance of overheating the motor. And engine overheating is terrible because there is intensive wear of all rubbing parts. Spontaneous ignition of the fuel mixture in the combustion chambers also occurs, and detonation occurs.
Antifreeze is necessary for the engine not only for cooling, but also for lubricating the coolant pump. Lubrication occurs due to the substances contained in the antifreeze. In addition, there are many chemicals in the coolant that counteract the formation of scale and deposits. But only these chemicals have a relatively short life span.
So, the manufacturer strongly recommends completely replacing the fluid every 45 thousand kilometers of the car's run. In fact, you have to constantly monitor the acid-base balance in the system. An increased content of acids or alkalis can lead to the destruction of system components, to corrosion of the walls of the cooling jacket in the engine block. You can check the balance using special indicators.
Preparing to replace antifreeze
The first step is to let the engine cool down. You will have to completely drain the old antifreeze from the system, and the hot liquid can be very scalded. And do not forget that the toxicity of antifreeze is very high, so it is best to protect your hands when working with it. Wear rubber gloves and a respirator.
Now you need to drain the old antifreeze into some container. To do this, remove the engine protection to provide access to the drain taps from below. Place a container under the drain holes, then only open the plugs. Do not forget about the stove, its tap must be opened completely so that all the antifreeze flows out.
After draining the liquid, close all plugs and flush the system with special solutions. To do this, pour flushing fluid into the tank, and then start the engine. It is necessary to bring the engine temperature to working temperature. At the same time, do not forget to turn on the stove at full power so that not a single air bubble remains in the system.
Replacing antifreeze
After reaching operating temperature, stop the engine and let it cool down. Only then drain the flushing liquid. Fill with new antifreeze mixed with water in a 50/50 ratio. The proportion of antifreeze can be increased to 70%, but is no longer recommended. Close all fillers, start the engine again and turn on the stove at full power.
Let the engine run until the antifreeze is at operating temperature. Be sure to turn on the stove so that the liquid circulates to all corners of the system. It is also recommended to remove the thin hose going to the throttle valve. Wait for liquid to come out of it and reinstall it.
