Antifreeze and antifreeze are agents designed to cool car engines. Some motorists do not see a fundamental difference in them, others doubt the quality of the good old antifreeze, and still others mix these liquids without fear.

Anti-freeze liquids (antifreezes)

If water is poured into the engine jacket as a coolant, then if it is left in frost, the resulting ice, expanding, will necessarily damage the internal parts, or even completely tear the jacket body. Special coolants for cars prevent damage to parts, because they have a lower freezing point and, in addition, during crystallization, antifreeze turns into a mushy mass that is not able to harm the parts. Crystallizing, antifreezes lose their fluidity, therefore they are no longer able to fulfill their mission.

Antifreezes used as coolants for cars are based on ethylene glycol diluted with water, with the addition of various additives. The latter are designed to give the solution additional properties: anti-corrosion, anti-cavitation, antifoam and fluorescent (coloring).

Antifreeze is also antifreeze

It so happened that we are all forced to participate in the unwittingly created paradox of the Russian language. Probably, many have heard this dialogue more than once:

- Do you have antifreeze?

- No, I don't have antifreeze. I have antifreeze.

The abbreviation TOSOL stands for: OL (that is, alcohol) organic synthesis technology.

The common name "antifreeze" has become its own, although within this name there are a number of different brands, denoted by Latin letters and numbers. At the same time, initially the proper noun "antifreeze" became a household name. Meanwhile, the word "antifreeze" is a common name for all anti-freezing liquids. It translates as “non-freezing, anti-freezing”.

Is it possible to interfere with different brands of antifreeze

"Can antifreeze be mixed with antifreeze?" - this is how the question is most often raised by motorists, without going into the varieties of both. As noted, different brands of antifreeze contain a different set of additives, sometimes conflicting with each other. As a result, something can precipitate and clog the system.

If you nevertheless had to mix different coolants on a trip, on arrival at the garage, rinse the cooling system well with distilled water. The same should be done when switching from one antifreeze to another.

Based on the above, it is best not to mix coolants, especially if they have different distinctive colors. This primarily applies to domestic green antifreeze and foreign antifreezes, which are often red.
