Benz

The first milestone in the history of the appearance on the market of the Mercedes-Benz car can be considered the registration of the company "Benz & Co." Reinische Gazmotoren-Fabrik, Mannheim, October 1, 1883. The company was registered by the German inventor, talented engineer and one of the pioneers of the automotive industry Karl Benz. Benz's companions were the enterprising businessman Max Caspar Rose and the commercial agent Friedrich Wilhelm Esslinger. The new company was organized on the basis of a bicycle workshop, but it was engaged in the design, creation and sale of gasoline engines.

At that time, Karl Benz already had patents registered by him for a two-stroke internal combustion engine and for the most important components and systems of a car. These included: a water-cooled radiator, spark plug, clutch elements, carburetor, accelerator, ignition system and gearbox. The presence of all these developments and allowed Benz to design the car. The first three-wheeled car was produced by Benz in 1886.

Daimler

In parallel with the development of the Karal Benz company, another company grew and developed, which bore the name - "Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft". Gottlieb Daimler created this company in 1890, his company was engaged in the production of four-wheeled cars, which at first were not in great demand. A really successful sample, the designer of this company Wilhelm Maybach managed to create it only in 1901. The cars of this particular company were the first to receive the name Mercedes.

In Slumdog Millionaire, Mercedes-Benz demanded that its logos be removed from slum scenes.

Mercedes

The appearance of this name has its own separate history. As legend has it, the cars got this name thanks to the persistent recommendations of the Vice-Consul of Austria-Hungary in Nice, Emil Jellinek, who was an avid racer and concurrently head of the Daimler representative office in France. In 1899 he raced in Nice in a Daimler car. As a pseudonym, he took the name of his daughter, whose name was Mercedes, he won the race, after which he decided that this name would bring good luck to the company's cars.

A year later, Emil asked Daimler to design a new, more elegant and powerful car model for him, with the condition that the car should be called a Mercedes. The order of 36 cars was at that time simply gigantic and very profitable, and Daimler agreed to all the conditions of the vice-consul. So the name appeared, which in 1902 officially became a trademark.

The Mercedes emblem - a three-pointed star - symbolizes the use of the company's engines on land, in water and in the air, as well as the company's superiority in these three elements.

In 1926, after the merger of the Daimler and Benz companies, the cars of the new Daimler-Benz concern began to be called Mercedes-Benz.
