If you are tired of the factory bumper on your car, why not improve its appearance with a plastic body kit? Such kits are called body kits or aero kits. Of course, this service costs money and a lot. But you can make the original bumper yourself, spending only the necessary materials.
It is necessary
- - epoxy resin;
- - fiberglass;
- - masking tape;
- - Styrofoam;
- - cardboard;
- - foil;
- - brushes;
- - polyurethane foam;
- - plastic scraper;
- - factory bumper.
Instructions
Step 1
Place the donor bumper on a locksmith workbench. Paste the inside of it with several layers of masking tape. On the scotch tape, mark the position of the structural elements of the bumper - technological holes for air intake (air intakes), tuning elements, holes for additional optics, and more.
Step 2
Stick the pieces of styrofoam directly onto the masking tape. Use a sharpened knife to shape the foam to the desired shape. In the places where the bumper is attached to the car, glue the foam.
Step 3
Fasten the pieces of cardboard around the edges of the "experimental" bumper and also cover them with several layers of masking tape. This is necessary so that the polyurethane foam does not spread. Fill with foam and leave to dry for a few hours.
Step 4
After the polyurethane foam has dried, remove the cardboard, then remove the old bumper along with the hardened structure. It will not be difficult to do this, since you have glued masking tape to the right places before. Using sandpaper and a well-sharpened blade, sand the edges of the resulting structure. Get a flat, smooth surface and move on to the next step.
Step 5
Cover the entire base with foil and start applying epoxy with glass cloth. First of all, coat the foil with epoxy, and then attach fiberglass to the future bumper. Smooth it out with a plastic scraper. Do this carefully to avoid the formation of folds or air bubbles on the fiberglass. Then reapply the resin and apply another layer of fiberglass. This procedure should be repeated 5-6 times. Leave the bumper on until the epoxy is completely dry.
Step 6
Disconnect the structure. To do this, first remove the foam base. To make it easier, cut it into pieces. Polish the almost finished bumper with a fine-grain sandpaper until the surface is perfectly flat. Prime and paint the bumper.
