If your car windshield is cracked by any impact, it is not always worth going to a service center to have the glass replaced. You can remedy this problem yourself.

It is necessary

  • - grinding paste for glass;
  • - drill;
  • - ultraviolet lamp;
  • - special polymer composition.

Instructions

Step 1

Go to a car store or car market to purchase the items you need for repair. There, buy a diamond tipped drill, clear glue and a set of plates that are included in the crack kit.

Step 2

Make holes at the beginning and end of the crack that appears with a drill. This must be done in order to prevent further spread of the chip on the glass. However, perform this procedure not on the entire thickness of the glass, but only on the layer on which the crack is present, without affecting the rest. Make the holes at a distance of about three millimeters from the edges of the chip, and then connect them by lightly tapping the glass with a hammer.

Step 3

Clean the damaged windshield very carefully with acetone, then seal the crack with tape to prevent moisture and dust from entering it.

Step 4

Treat the bases ("stars") of those places from which the crack has formed. To do this, drill them out in such a way that not even a small crumb of "stars" remains on the windshield.

Step 5

Then apply a thin layer of special glue to the very edges of the damaged area. Then place the cracks of the plates that were to be purchased in the set on the glue-treated area.

Step 6

Start the drying process using a UV lamp. Please note that it is not recommended to dry the glue in the sun, as this will lead to uneven drying of the glue.

Step 7

Cut off excess glue with a blade after it dries. After that, carefully polish the surface of the windshield with a special polymer compound and a polishing machine, and then with a glass grinding paste.
