Today, an increasing number of car enthusiasts are installing alarms on their cars. Fortunately, the choice of such systems is huge, as is the provision of services for their installation. But some drivers try to install the alarm themselves. What do you need to know to do everything right?
Necessary
Key for 10, a knife for stripping wires, black electrical tape, tape, multimeter, alarm with instructions
Instructions
Step 1
First, decide where to install the main unit. Place it inside the cabin in a hidden place. Do not place near moving parts and parts, near the air ducts of the stove and air conditioner, antenna cables. The most practical place to install the unit is in the cavities behind the dashboard, slightly to the left or to the right.
Step 2
Remove the dashboard and the panel that is near the driver's knees. Next, remove the lower steering column pad to provide easy access to the ignition switch. Be careful when removing chips and connectors from the panel: do not drop them on metal parts of the body - they can short out to ground. Pull them out and immediately cover the contacts with strips of electrical tape.
Step 3
Connect the alarm wires to the wires that go to the dashboard. Connect two outputs to direction indicators or, if desired, to dimensions. This can be a tachometer lead, a charge lamp lead, or an oil pressure (emergency) lamp lead.
Step 4
On the back of the dashboard, find the cornering lights or instrument lighting bulbs. Find the tracks that match these bulbs on the board. Hook up the connector, turn on the turn signal, hook up the multimeter in voltage measurement mode. If voltage appears, this is the desired wire.
Step 5
Next, find the negative wire of the open door. Look for a contact on the panel along the tracks and check for the presence of minus 12 V when the door is open. For an alarm with engine start function, locate the control wire.
Step 6
After that, determine the place of connection of the locks' wires. For vehicles with factory central locking, locate the central locking relay - it will be under the dash. The relay resembles a box the size of a pack of cigarettes.
Step 7
Begin the installation of the system. Wrap the wiring harness that comes from the alarm with black electrical tape, which will simulate standard wiring and create double insulation. Route the wires under the hood. Attach a siren to the missed wires, fasten it with a bolt under the hood in a regular hole, screw the second siren wire to the ground. Now connect the alarm ground to the nearest bolt under the panel. Connect the alarm plus to the wire on the ignition switch.
