Lada Priora is one of the most popular car models produced by the domestic auto industry. Because of this, many questions arise related to the repair and operation of this car. This includes how to check and tighten the alternator belt.
Instructions
Step 1
Check the tension of the alternator belt at least every 15 thousand kilometers. This requirement is prescribed by the manufacturer. Park the car on a flat surface, apply the handbrake to exclude the slightest movement of the machine when performing work. Then turn off the engine and remove the key from the ignition.
Step 2
Prepare the necessary tool for work: a vernier caliper or ruler, as well as a wrench. After that, disconnect the wire from the "minus" of the storage battery. Lift the hood and find the alternator belt there, which first visually inspect to identify cracks, scuffs and various defects.
Step 3
Then check if it is tight enough. To do this, push your thumb towards the constriction with your thumb. Holding the belt in this position, take a caliper or an ordinary ruler and measure the amount by which the deviation from the initial position occurred. If this value exceeds 8-12 mm, then the belt must be tightened.
Step 4
To test yourself, grab the belt with two fingers and rotate it to its maximum angle. If this angle is more than 90 degrees, then tension adjustment cannot be avoided. Take a wrench of the desired radius in your hands and carefully loosen the nut with which the generator is attached to the car's tension bracket.
Step 5
Use the adjusting bolt to set the optimal tension on the alternator belt. Make sure that at the time of adjustment, the load on the belt is the same, and it does not deviate from the specified position. After that, tighten the nut securing the generator to the tensioning bar with a torque of at least 21 N * m. Remember that regular checking and the optimal tension of the alternator belt will help you to extend the life of your vehicle.
