When inspecting the generator, pay attention to the condition of its brushes, brush holder and slip rings. If the brushes are badly worn out, then it is necessary to replace them, which will not take much time.
Instructions
Step 1
Look at the voltmeter, which, in the event of a fault in the brushes, should show too low a voltage in the network. After that, prepare a set of wrenches and sockets, a universal joint with an extension and pliers. The brushes on the VAZ are attached to the generator with one bolt.
Step 2
Remove the battery from the car and try to get to the bolt you need with your hand. For the convenience of performing work, using pliers, disconnect the plastic connector from the generator, which has one terminal. The wiring harness connected to the starter and generator must also be removed. After that, unscrew the bolt and take out the old brushes.
Step 3
Install new brushes and try to tighten the bolt. If this process seems beyond your power, then lift the car on a lift or using jacks. After that, climb under the car and unscrew the fasteners of the engine protection and mudguard, and then remove them. Then find the nut holding the generator and its bracket. Take care not to lose the sealing washers.
Step 4
Now "climb" into the hood from above and disconnect the belt and nut securing the tension bracket. Then take the generator out and disconnect the wires that are attached to the generator at three points. To do this, move the cover and, using a wrench, unscrew the fastening of the three thick cores, disconnect another wire by disconnecting the plastic block. The last wire is connected directly to the contacts of the brushes.
Step 5
Tighten the bolt and the new brushes will completely slide into place. Then reassemble in reverse order. Do not forget to reattach the wires and check the generator's performance. The voltmeter should now indicate normal operating voltage, indicating correct installation.
