The date of manufacture is considered to be the moment of car production. It must be indicated in the accompanying documents. In the absence of documentary evidence, this date can be determined using the body number.

Step 1
In accordance with the unified international numbering system for road transport, the identification number (VIN) is a combination of 17 alphabetic and numeric codes. They are assigned individually to each vehicle. VIN must be indicated in the technical passport. As a rule, it is knocked out on the right side of the car, if possible in the front and always on a non-removable part.
Step 2
The identification number consists of three parts. The first is the manufacturer's code. It consists of several characters: the first means the geographic area, the second - the country, the third - a specific manufacturer. The second part consists of six characters that are intended to describe the properties of the car. The third consists of eight characters. The last four of them must be numbers.
Step 3
These numbers are applied to one-piece body or chassis components and to special number plates. VIN must be written in either one line or two lines. It is mandatory that there are no spaces between the symbols. Moreover, its elements should not be separated. It has an alphanumeric structure, with the exception of the last four positions. For compilation, the following Arabic numbers and Latin letters are used: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, L, M, N, P, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z.
Step 4
According to the international standard ISO 3779-1983, the year of manufacture should be located in the tenth position in the body identification number. In some exceptional cases, it can be indicated, for example, at the 11th position.
Step 5
The repetition of the designation of the year of manufacture is carried out by manufacturers with a frequency of 30 years. If you see the W designation, it is a 1998 car; if A - the car was produced in 1980 or 2010. The numbers from 1 to 9 are inherent in the time period 2001-2009 and 1971-1979, respectively. Then comes the repetition of the Latin alphabet.
Step 6
It should be borne in mind that the companies in the VIN number show the so-called model year, which in most cases does not coincide with the calendar year. This is due to the fact that the standard recommends starting the release of a new model range from July 1. Knowing these two indicators, you can determine the age of the car with an accuracy of half a year.
Step 7
You can also determine the year of manufacture by stamps on the glass or the back of the rear-view mirror, labels on seat belts, stickers in the passenger compartment, on the seats, under the hood from a service station.
