Judging by the official statistics, about 80% of foreign cars imported from abroad are stolen. By the way, you can become the owner of a car, drive it for several years, even cross the state border on it, and only then, after a few years, find out that your favorite car is stolen.
In order not to become an unhappy owner of one of these cars, you need to know a few simple but useful rules.
Checking the numbers
The identification number is the most important thing that you should pay attention to when buying a car on the secondary market, although not many can notice any catch here, because even professionals are sometimes powerless to make a clear examination.
However, any abrasion, unevenness of the number stamped on the body should already alert the buyer. Plus, the size of these numbers and the distance between them must be identical.
In order to be sure that the car was not stolen, as well as to make it clear to a possible fraudster that his scam will in any case be disclosed, you need to ask this person to show his passport, rewrite his passport data, check whether he lives he is at his place of residence. Also, if the car is sold by power of attorney, then the seller must have the contacts of the real owner of the vehicle.
We check the car body. Is everything in place?
If the seller assures that all the markings that are present on the car body are exclusively factory-made, you should make sure of this. It is necessary to carefully check whether the numbers that are indicated in the vehicle passport (PTS) match the numbers on all labels, metal plates and stickers, as well as with the numbers stamped on the side windows.
You should also pay close attention to the state of the locks of the hood, trunk, car doors and whether there is any damage to the body, directly next to these parts. Among other things, it is necessary to make sure that the PTS of the imported car has been issued by the customs service, as required by law.
